The Dog Days of Summer

Training during the summer months in Texas will truly take the wind out of your sail. I find myself ramping up my training for the November Arizona Ironman just as the heat and humidity in Texas starts to peak. Running early in the morning helps some, still when bike training sessions last 3,4 and 5 hours at a time you are sure to find yourself in the heat of the Texas day. With the heat performance drops significantly affecting motivation and willpower in a negative way. The occasional group ride or run, social local race or getaway with friends will help keep your drive to the finish line on target.

Looking forward to next week’s trip with a great group of friends to the Lean Horse Ultra in South Dakota where I will be running a 50K race and cheering on many of my friends in their first 50-mile run. =)
